Rhythm Reaction Dance
Set-Up:
Use an open play area.
Instructor stands where everyone can see them.
No equipment needed.
How to Play:
Students spread out with plenty of personal space.
The instructor creates three body-movement rhythms using claps, stomps, snaps, or pats.
Example (but you will create your own):
Pattern A: Clap–Stomp–Clap = Students do quick hops
Pattern B: Snap–Snap–Clap = Students do arm circles
Pattern C: Pat knees–Clap–Pat knee = Students criss-cross their legs
Demonstrate each pattern and explain how everyone can work together to create a dance using all the movements.
Start the music (optional), then begin calling or performing the rhythms at random.
Students must listen carefully and immediately switch to the correct movement based on the rhythm pattern.
Change the patterns occasionally to keep the challenge fresh.
