Safari Yoga & Balance Game
Gather all students in one spot in classroom.
Ensure there is enough personal space for safe movement.
Instructor stands where all students can clearly see and hear directions.
Step 1: Begin the Circuit
Students spread out around the space.
Instructor calls out an animal and demonstrates the movement.
Students move into the pose and hold it for 5–10 seconds.
Animal Pose Examples:
Flamingo Balance: Stand on one foot with arms stretched out wide.
Giraffe Reach: Stretch arms high and slowly rise onto tiptoes.
Elephant Stomp Stretch: Stand wide and swing arms like a trunk.
Cheetah Ready Pose: Low squat with hands on knees, ready to move.
Snake Stretch: Slow side-to-side body movements or gentle floor stretch.
Turtle Shell: Curl inward briefly, then slowly stretch tall.
After each pose, students relax and prepare for the next animal cue.
Step 2: Amazing Balance Challenge
Once students are comfortable with poses, introduce the Balance Challenge.
Select one student as the Balance Leader.
The leader places a bean bag (or soft object) on another student’s arm, head, or shoulder.
The student must hold their pose without dropping the object.
If the object drops:
The student resets and tries again, or
Switch roles with another student.
Increase difficulty by:
Holding poses longer
Adding movement before freezing
Balancing on one foot
Bean bags or soft foam objects
